Continuing in the longstanding El Plantio tradition, our first shipment of bareroot trees has arrived and awaits for sale in a raised bed of sand. Each tree is carefully handled by experienced employees after you select the tree you want. After leaving the sand the roots are packaged in sawdust only at the time of sale as a temporary mulch to prevent the roots from drying out until they are planted. We have found the old traditional way still works best. Even though heeling in the trees is a bit of work, we significantly increase your chance of success over other prepackaged options.
Have a look at the wide variety we are carrying this year by clicking on the following link. http://www.davewilson.com/ordered/el_plantio.html They have great descriptions of each variety. Not all of the varieties listed will be available as bareroot. Through years of experience, we have found that some tree varieties transplant better after rooting into a container. Those varieties will be available later in the spring after the roots have had a chance to grow. Please, call and ask us about the current availability of specific varieties if you are interested.
Our supplier, Dave Wilson Nursery has a great website www.davewilson.com. It is a good resource for finding more information about planting and pruning fruit trees. We recommend you check it out.
